Every professional tax software company has a home base. Ours is Muscatine, Iowa, right in the heart of the Midwest. It’s a small but diverse town with a population around 22,880. For the most part folks here are super friendly. You never know if the person next to you in line at the supermarket is going to be a farmer, production worker, executive or something in-between.
Here are a few fun facts about our home:
Melons – While Iowa is famous for sweetcorn, which I highly recommend if you haven’t ever tried it. Muscatine itself is actually known for melons. You can find pretty much any vegetable here in the summertime, or even grow your own. Honestly, you if haven’t had peaches & cream sweetcorn or fresh watermelons you need to get here asap!
Ketchup – On your commute around town, you can often smell the strong vinegar and garlicky aroma of ketchup. HJ Heinz Company has their second largest location here. The largest being their headquarters in Pittsburg, PA. Next time you have the Heinz ketchup out, check the label to see if it was manufactured in Muscatine, Iowa.
Mark Twain’s Home – Mark Twain’s Home– Our most famous resident, he even worked for our local newspaper, The Muscatine Journal. In his book Life on the Mississippi, he described the breath-taking sunsets here on the Mississippi River. The Mark Twain Overlook is one of the best spots to admire this stunning artwork of Mother Nature.
Max Allan Collins birth place – On March 3, 1948 Max Allan Collins was born in Muscatine. The writer and director is best known for writing Road to Perdition (2002), the book turned movie starring the uber famous Tom Hanks.
